Why Thompson Rome’s 2026 Opening Will Redefine Your Travel Bucket List—Reserve Your Spot Before It’s Gone
Planning your Roman holiday for summer 2026? Hold everything — before you toss another name into your itinerary, how about securing a spot at the Thompson Rome? Nestled just a stone’s throw from Piazza Venezia and the Pantheon, this sleek newcomer is officially open for bookings starting May 31, 2026. Now, if you’re scratching your head wondering what took so long, you’re not alone; the Thompson was initially slated for a 2025 debut, but as any hotel aficionado knows, good things — and perfectly curated launches — take their sweet time. I’ve been a fan of Thompson properties for years (Madrid’s fusion of old-world charm and modern luxe still lingers in my mind) and this 69-room gem promises the kind of polished, masculine aesthetic and clubby comfort that turns stays into memories. Plus, let’s be honest: how often do you get to sip a cocktail with a 360-degree panorama of the Eternal City from a rooftop bar that once served as the heartbeat of Italian political history? Whether you’re wandering the cobblestone maze for the first time or the tenth, this one’s a game changer. Ready to lock it in? LEARN MORE
If Rome is on the horizon for travel plans in summer 2026, stop what you’re doing and make reservations at the Thompson Rome. Well located near Piazza Venezia and the Pantheon, the property is now bookable from May 31, 2026, on, according to the hotel’s website.
You may recall that TPG added the Thompson Rome to our “most exciting hotel openings of 2025” list. As is common with many new hotel projects, the opening date slipped, but Hyatt says it will now welcome guests to this 69-room Category 8 property at the end of May.
Thompson is one of my favorite Hyatt brands, especially the Thompson Madrid and The Cape, A Thompson Hotel. Its hotels are based in beautiful buildings with panache all their own but are then outfitted with every modern touch you’d expect of a luxury brand. The design sensibility tends to be masculine with warm earth tones and comfortable, clubby furniture.
While Thompson Hotels has a small footprint (19 properties, including the Thompson Rome and the Thompson Shanghai Expo, which is also opening soon), it’s worth having on your radar.
The Thompson Rome itself has a storied history, as it was once the national headquarters for Italy’s Communist Party. Today, its standout feature is soon to be its glorious rooftop bar on the seventh floor, where guests will find 360-degree views of the Eternal City.

The Thompson Rome also features a signature restaurant and bar, as well as a fitness area.

You can book standard rooms with either a king or queen bed. Junior suites are available with and without terraces. There’s also an interesting twin bed suite, which is fantastic for friends traveling together.
Finally, the location on Via delle Botteghe Oscure is fantastic, especially for first-time Rome visitors. In less than a mile, you can walk to the Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, Piazza di Spagna and Castel Sant’Angelo, and St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City is just 1.28 miles from the hotel.
