Zendaya Stuns Rome in Cate Blanchett’s Iconic Dress—Why This Fashion Move Is Shaking Up Hollywood
Here comes the bride—but hold up, she’s skipping the classic white dress this time! Zendaya, the queen of red carpet reinvention, has been painting the town in bridal vibes without donning that traditional nuptial hue. While promoting her latest wedding-themed flick, The Drama, she’s been on a method dressing tear—rocking white looks that scream “real-life bride,” thanks to her genius stylist Law Roach. But guess what? At the Rome premiere, Zendaya flipped the script and stunned the crowd in a dazzling black Armani Privé dress… that actually belongs to none other than Cate Blanchett. Is this a clever nod to the old “something old, something new, something borrowed” mantra? Or just Zendaya being Zendaya—masterfully mixing style and storytelling as only she can. Either way, it’s a red carpet mystery I’m totally here for. Ready to dive into the details? LEARN MORE
Here comes the bride—but this time, she’s not wearing any white.
While promoting her new wedding-themed film The Drama, Zendaya has been immersed in yet another method dressing streak, thanks to the help of her stylist and image architect, Law Roach. In a not-so-subtle move, the Emmy winner has been wearing white on white on white these past few weeks, looking like a real-life bride (which, reportedly, she might be). However, today that wasn’t the case.
This afternoon, at the Rome premiere of The Drama, Zendaya arrived to the red carpet in a black Armani Privé dress that’s defined by it plunging scoop neckline decorated with large gemstones.
As it turns out, it actually belongs to Cate Blanchett, who previously wore the dress on the red carpet in 2022, at the Actor Awards, and in 2025, to the Venice International Film Festival. Call it something borrowed.
In fact, during the press run for The Drama, Zendaya has worn something old (vintage Caché), something new (Pre-Fall 2026 Ermanno Scervino), and now something borrowed, which could be a secret pattern for her recent string of looks. Don’t be surprised if she wears something blue in the next few days, too.
However, while Zendaya and her stylist might be subtly playing with this framework, it could also just be a coincidence. She is no stranger to borrowing an outfit, after all.
Early on in Zendaya’s career, Law Roach would often style her in looks that had been worn by big names on the red carpet in the past, as a way to get her featured in “Who Wore It Better” columns and increase her visibility. “Nobody wanted to dress her when she wasn’t known, so I would put her in things that other people had already worn,” he told The Guardian. “[Then], people started to know her name.”
There is no doubt that people certainly know her name now, and she’s the one setting the red carpet trends. And we might’ve just cracked the case on her latest method dressing strategy.
