Princess Kate’s Unexpected Tribute to Queen Elizabeth II That’s Shaking Royal Traditions — Find Out What She Did!
Ever wonder how a simple strand of pearls can hold a legacy that spans a century? Today at Buckingham Palace, the royal family gathered not just to mark an occasion, but to celebrate a remarkable milestone—the 100th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II. Now, here’s where it gets fascinating: Princess Kate didn’t just show up in a pastel dress (which, by the way, felt like a quiet nod to the Queen’s timeless style); she wore treasured jewelry that belonged to her grandmother-in-law—the Queen herself. That three-strand pearl necklace and those elegant Bahrain pearl-drop earrings? They’re more than accessories—they’re fragments of history, worn in moments both solemn and iconic. As someone who’s seen trends come and go, I can tell you—there’s nothing quite like jewelry that tells a story, especially when that story is about duty, grace, and a lifetime of inspiration. Today at Buckingham Palace, the royal family gathered for a reception to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s centenary, as today would have marked her 100th birthday (she was born on April 21, 1926, in Mayfair, England).
For the occasion, it came as no surprise when Princess Kate chose to honor the late monarch with her look, wearing a meaningful piece of jewelry that once belonged to her grandmother-in-law, and was a staple of her wardrobe.
The jewelry in question was Elizabeth’s three-strand pearl necklace, one which she wore on countless occasions, most notably in the final royal portrait that she took, prior to her passing in September 2022.
To match the timeless statement piece, the Princess of Wales also wore a pair of Bahrain pearl-drop earrings, which belonged to the late queen as well.
These jewelry pieces elevated the princess’ bespoke lilac midi dress from Emilia Wickstead, which even itself felt like a nod to the former monarch, thanks to its bright pastel hue (the type of color that QEII certainly would have embraced back in the day).
For a final touch, Kate slipped into a set of tan calfskin pumps from Ralph Lauren, and she left her hair down in long waves, which were slightly parted to the side.
Earlier today, Kate and her husband, Prince William, honored Queen Elizabeth’s legacy by posting a series of photos from her life to their official Instagram account. In the caption, they wrote: “Remembering Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the 100th anniversary of her birth. Inspiring generations through a lifetime of duty.” As you can see from the first photo, even when she was a young girl, Elizabeth had a love of pearls.
