The 2026 French Open is blazing through Roland Garros in Paris—and trust me, the real match might just be happening off the court. Between slick leather shorts, Gucci tanks, and a newsboy cap that’s practically begging for a comeback, it’s clear that old trends are getting a second wind. So, what does this fusion of retro flair and modern chic say about the cyclical nature of style—and how can we channel a bit of that timeless cool? Let’s dive in. LEARN MORE
As the 2026 French Open rages on at Roland Garros stadium in Paris, so does the exciting celebrity style, on and off the court.
Over the weekend, Salma Hayek was the latest A-lister to hit the stands, where she made a sporty statement in an assemblage of designer pieces—and an accessory that harkened back to the early aughts.
Sitting alongside her husband, François-Henri Pinault, Hayek stuck to a low-key, mostly black color scheme, with a couple striking pops of color.
She began with an inky ribbed tank from Gucci, which featured the house’s signature green-and-red stripes outlining the scoop neck. Over top, she layered a black cardigan tied into a knot in the front, and she added a grungy touch with a pair of black leather Bermuda shorts. (Shorts have definitely been making a grown-up comeback this spring.) Down low, she slipped into a pair of leather Bottega Veneta slides with dual buckles across the vamp.
As a wink to the stripe on her tank, Hayek carried a candy-red Baby Veneta Intrecciato leather shoulder bag from Bottega Veneta, while also sporting a pair of 54mm cat-eye sunglasses from McQueen, which featured scarlet pops along the temples.
But the pièce de résistance was Hayek’s black newsboy cap, a headwear trend that was quite popular throughout the 2000s but slowly fell out of fashion. Clearly, Hayek is ready for this hat to make a comeback.
The French Open will continue through June 7. Keep following along as we cover all the best style moments.
