Tonight, the FIFA World Cup officially begins in America with the third of three opening ceremonies, this one in Los Angeles. Amongst headliners, which will include Katy Perry and Future, the Brazilian pop star Anitta will perform her official FIFA World Cup 2026 song “Goals,” a collaboration with K-Pop star LISA and Nigerian Afrobeats artist Rema. As for the fashion for such an important world stage? Anitta has turned to H&M Studio for a custom, sport-inspired look.

The pop star worked in collaboration with both the H&M Studio team and her stylist, Janelle Miller, to create something that matched the explosive energy of the performance—and harkened back to her own Brazilian heritage. “When you think about the World Cup, you think about joy, passion, pride,” she says. “I wanted people to watch me perform and feel that.”

For tonight’s extravaganza, she will emerge in a hooded cape, evocative of those a boxer wears to enter an arena—fitting, no? “When I walk out on that stage, I want it to be a moment,” she says. “The cape brings that theatrical, almost epic feeling. It’s like, she’s here! It also has this warrior energy that I really connect with.”

Beneath the cape, Anitta wears a stark white wraparound crop top fitted with sheer sleeves and various cutouts, as well as a pair of white chaps festooned with rhinestone-adorned cargo pockets. The whole thing is blanketed in sparkle thanks to a crystal-embellished belt with elongated chains and a matching rhinestone harness. “Since this is such a massive world stage, I knew that the look had to match the moment,” says Miller.

Their references mixed Carnival energy, the typical superhero uniform, and a lot of sparkle. “The attitude, the energy: It’s all Brazil,” she says. “Even if you’ve never been to Brazil, I want you to feel what it’s like to be Brazilian in that moment.” Anitta was also thinking very much about movement: “I dance a lot, so the look needs to work with my body.”

Tonight’s headliner has fronted multiple campaigns for the brand throughout their now year-long partnership, so this wasn’t a surprise collab. “When this epic moment came up for Anitta to perform, it made total sense to create something together with H&M for it,” says Miller. “I love that their fashion is accessible to everyone,” Anitta adds. “That matters a lot to me.”

But all in all, the look conveys the excitement she has surrounding Anitta’s performance: “It’s surreal, honestly. I’m so happy and honored to be able to represent my country in something this big,” she says. “And feeling good in what you’re wearing, that’s so important. When you love your look, everything changes, right?”
