Why Taylor Swift’s Cozy Fall Look Is Secretly a Masterclass in Seasonal Style Transformation You Can’t Miss
Isn’t there something almost magical about the first crisp breeze of fall? The leaves start dropping like a perfectly timed beat in a classic Swift ballad, and suddenly, every scarf hidden away emerges from the shadows like a champion stepping into the ring. Taylor Swift gets it — she’s not just playing the game, she’s rewriting the playbook on how to welcome autumn. With her fifth UK “chart double” celebration lighting up the scene, she’s wrapped herself in a cozy, retro preppy look that screams fall vibes louder than the crunch of leaves underfoot. But here’s a thought: what if embracing the season’s charm isn’t just about fashion or music? What if it’s a mindset, a celebration of those little moments—the foggy window doodles, ankle boots, and even the guilty pumpkin-flavored pleasures—that add up to something bigger? Let’s dive into how Taylor’s seasonal style and soulful nods to autumn inspire more than just playlists—they inspire us to own the season with fierce, unabashed enthusiasm. LEARN MORE
The air is crisp, the leaves are starting to fall, and all our scarves are coming out of storage: It’s officially time to put “All Too Well” on repeat.
Taylor Swift herself has never shied away from playing favorites when it comes to seasons, and just ushered in the autumnal weather with the coziest of looks. Celebrating a milestone achievement in the United Kingdom (she scored her fifth “chart double,” as “Patient Zero” and The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore topped the UK charts simultaneously), she posed in a retro preppy ensemble that dove headfirst into fall (see photos here).
On top, she got cozy in a Burberry polo, crafted from a lightweight wool in deep burgundy (or rather, maroon) with a slim fit and long sleeves. The (appropriately British) house finished off the piece with a placket in its signature beige check—the perfect color match to the singer’s high-waisted khaki trousers. She secured the pants with a black belt.
As for her hair, Swift’s freshly-cut locks looked more 1989 than the crown jewel of fall eras, Red, or that of her equally-as-cozy Evermore. Styled in natural, bouncy waves, with her bangs slightly swept, she was the spitting image of her 2014 self.
Last fall, we saw Swift favor plaid skirts and tall boots in October and November, turning to the likes of Thom Browne and Miu Miu for elevated takes on schoolgirl dressing.
While she has been penning poetry about the season for as long as she’s been writing music, it was a lengthy Tumblr post from over a decade ago that best showcased her appreciation: “Hats and scarves and knee socks and wearing tights for the first time in months and when the mornings are all chilly and you can see your breath and draw little pictures on foggy windows and plaid stuff and ANKLE BOOTS and not caring when people make fun of pumpkin flavored stuff cause you LOVE IT and are happy it’s all the rage and people who dress their dogs in costumes on Halloween and fires in fireplaces and maroon/hunter green/mustard yellow color combos and baking your first fall batch of cookies but you put too much cinnamon in it because you’re TOO EXCITED BECAUSE IT’S FALL.”
In 2021, with the release of Red: Taylor’s Version, Swift brought this post to life with an Instagram reel highlighting all her favorites.
