Irish animation studio JAM Media is expanding its preschool series BeddyByes into an international entertainment and consumer products brand following a 52-episode recommission from RTÉ and the BBC.

The Dublin and Belfast-based studio will launch its first BeddyByes plush toys and books this year, with further products planned as the property expands beyond television.

Moose Toys, the company behind global Bluey figures and plush products, will launch the first BeddyByes toys internationally later this year.

Blue Ant Media is handling international distribution and the global consumer products programme, while Bulldog Licensing is leading the UK and Ireland consumer products programme.

In Ireland, the initial toy range will be available through Amazon, while UK retailers will include The Entertainer, Argos, Selfridges and Amazon.

The first BeddyByes book, BeddyByes: Time for BeddyByes, will be published by Ladybird, an imprint of Penguin Random House, on 22 October. Three further titles are planned for 2027.

JAM Media CEO and co-founder John Rice said the partnerships represented “strong international validation of the commercial potential” of the brand.

“BeddyByes was created from a simple idea: to make a programme that captures a young child’s imagination while respecting the particular rhythm of the end of their day,” he said.

The second series will comprise 52 episodes, each 11 minutes long, bringing the total number of episodes to 104. Production is underway across JAM Media’s studios in Dublin and Belfast, with delivery scheduled for autumn 2027.

The new series will see characters MeMo and BaBa explore new parts of Planet BeddyByes, including the Wild Patch and an underwater world beneath Lullaby Lake, accessed aboard the GoGo Sub.

The series has built a growing international audience since its launch, with viewing hours increasing from 3.7m in the first 28 days to 10.4m subsequently.

Disney Kids & Family has acquired US linear television rights for Disney Jr and global streaming rights for Disney+, while broadcast partners include YLE in Finland, NRK in Norway and ABC in Australia.

The first series also received six Kidscreen nominations, with Dawn French winning for Best Voice Acting for her role as Gramma Leeba.

Suzanne Kelly, Head of Children’s & Young People’s Content at RTÉ, described BeddyByes as “one of the most important series in our animation offering for preschoolers”.

In Ireland, the initial toy range will be available through Amazon, while UK retailers will include The Entertainer, Argos, Selfridges and Amazon.

“BeddyByes has already achieved this. In one season it has established itself as a firm favourite with both our preschool audience and very importantly their parents,” she said.

The series was produced in Belfast with funding from Northern Ireland Screen and Screen Ireland.
