Colorado GOP’s Governor Hopeful Claims He’s Done Phone Exorcisms—Is This Political or Paranormal?
You ever wake up to a political circus so wild, you wonder if you accidentally tuned into a sci-fi thriller? Well, Colorado’s latest primary elections delivered just that — top Democrats lost their spots, and the Republicans? They might just hand the governor’s race to a man whose resume reads like a blockbuster screenplay. Picture this: a ministry leader who claims to have performed exorcisms over the phone, called in airstrikes against ISIS, and barely edges out his competition by a hair’s breadth. It’s not every day you see a GOP race neck-and-neck with a character who sounds out of this world — literally. Makes you ask, what’s politics without a little spectacle and a whole lot of “did I just hear that right?” Buckle up, because Colorado politics just turned into the most bizarre fight for the governor’s mansion. Big news in Tuesday’s primary elections in Colorado! Fifteen-term Democratic representative Diana DeGette and Senator Michael Bennet, running for the Democratic nomination for governor, lost their respective primaries. But the real story for me is that Colorado Republicans are seriously thinking of nominating a lunatic from outer space to run for governor. From the Fort Collins Coloradoan:
The Republican primary race for governor further tightened up as votes were counted overnight and now stands at a dead heat. As of 7 a.m. July 1, state Sen. Barbara Kirkmeyer holds a 1,356-vote lead over ministry leader Victor Marx. Both have 40 percent of the votes, and state Rep. Scott Bottoms has 20 percent. Over 466,000 votes have been counted in that race so far.
In other words, the Colorado GOP is inches from lining up behind an alleged preacher who has said the following:
1) That his stepfather had him kill someone when he was seven years old.
2) That he and his organization have rescued somewhere in the neighborhood of between 43 people and 45,000, which is a pretty damn big neighborhood.
3) That he has performed exorcisms by phone.
4) That, as a civilian, he once called in an air strike that killed 70 ISIS fighters.
And the amazing thing is, he copped to most of this in a great interview with Kyle Clark of 9News in Denver. And, as of this writing, he is 1,000-odd votes away from the Republican nomination for governor. The GOP has a very weird hive mind.
