Danny McCoy, the long-time head of Ibec, is set to guest on the next episode of Business Plus Talks, in association with Philip Lee LLP.

McCoy has served as chief executive of Ireland’s largest business representative organisations and lobbying group since 2009.

During his career, McCoy has been a senior economist at the Central Bank of Ireland and the ESRI, and he has been a consultant for both the European Commission and the OECD.

He has also lectured in economics at UCL, the University of Oxford, Trinity College Dublin and DCU.

McCoy first joined Ibec in 2005 as director of policy, and he has held the role of CEO for the past 17 years.

For three years, he was also vice president of Statistical and Social Inquiry Society of Ireland.

He is a member of the Royal Irish Academy, a Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy, and Honorary Fellow of the Irish Academy of Engineers.

Last week, McCoy became the second recipient of the Trinity European Laureate Award in recognition of his contribution to business in Europe, to economic thought, and to public life.

The gold medal acknowledges his leadership in advancing the European ideal throughout a career dedicated to promoting cooperation and shared prosperity.

At the ceremony, McCoy was lauded for strengthening the voice of Irish business in both national and European policymaking as well as his advocacy for stability, cooperation and the avoidance of a hard border during Brexit negotiations.
