The model that immediately preceded it, the iO Series 9, is the next best thing. It features many of the same features and power, just with a less high-tech charging mount (which may be a benefit for some who prefer something lighter and less complicated).

Series 9 is similarly a premium electric toothbrush packed with advanced features designed to elevate your oral care routine. Just like the 10, there are seven customizable modes—including Daily Clean, Sensitive, Super Sensitive, Intense, Gum Care, Tongue Clean, and Whitening—this brush adapts to your needs, whether you have sensitive gums or want a deep clean. Its oscillating, vibrating round brush head provides a powerful yet gentle clean, and the built-in pressure sensor ensures you’re brushing with the right amount of force, lighting up red (too strong), blue (too weak), or green (just right) based on your pressure.

The Series 9 pairs with a companion app to track your brushing in real time across 16 zones of the mouth, offering instant feedback and a visual map of missed areas. I’m not a huge tech junkie, especially when it comes to something like brushing my teeth, since I just want to get it over with quickly. Even if you skip the app, the built-in display shows your selected mode and a timer, though the latter is easier to read in the app. That being said, it’s nearly impossible to achieve a 100 percent clean according to the app (I usually aim for between 80 and 90) without brushing for five or more minutes, which is not recommended because it can damage enamel. If you’re a perfectionist, this will prove annoying.

In terms of design, the Series 9 is sleek and solid, and comes with a sturdy travel case. It charges in just three hours (significantly faster than most others on this list) and comes with four replacement heads, which should cover your first year of use if you replace them every three months, as dentists advise.
