Recruitment consultancy group Harpstone, formerly known as BPVA, has announced the outright acquisition of Hamilton French and Aphex and taken a significant majority stake in Sonas Technical.
Financial terms of the deals were not disclosed by Harpstone, which also owns recruitment brands Vantage, PE Global, Sabeo, Brightwater and Pinta.
AIB provided funding towards the three acquisitions and supported a refinance of the group.
Separately, Harpstone has appointed former Cpls chief financial officer Seána Lynch as group CFO.
Hamilton French is based in Cork and places permanent, temporary and contract staff in construction and infrastructure, and Waterford’s Aphex recruits engineering, quality, scientific and support staff for pharmaceutical and life science sites across Ireland.
Sonas Technical is based in Naas and recruits permanent and contract engineering and technical staff for companies in Ireland.
Founded by John Lacy and John Hannon in 2018, Harpstone intends to keep building through acquisitions and organic investments in its existing businesses.
The group now has annualised revenues of €175m and over 200 internal staff, making it one of the largest independent Irish-owned platforms in the sector.
“Harpstone gives Irish specialist firms in the human capital sector a way to grow with an Irish-owned group behind them,” said Lacy and Hannon, co-CEOs of Harpstone.
“With Seána joining, we continue to develop the group leadership in order to keep scaling the platform and fostering cross-collaboration.

“We have spent eight years building a strategic model for acquiring specialist human capital businesses in Ireland and helping them grow further than they would on their own.
“Sonas Technical, Hamilton French and Aphex are well-run firms with deep roots in engineering, construction, infrastructure and life sciences.”
