Inside the Untold Drama of Charli XCX and George Daniel’s Rollercoaster Romance — What Really Went Down?
In the midst of Paris Fashion Week, Charli shares a slideshow of photos, writing, “and i’m in the front row (bonjour).” One of the pics sees her sitting on a kelly green couch with Daniel, and he casually has his arm dangled behind her, while she snuggles up against his body.
September 2022: George shares his first photo with Charli on Instagram, along with a hidden love note.
A few months after Charli makes their relationship Instagram official, Daniel follows suit with a (since-deleted) picture of him and the pop star, which he captions: “IILWY 💚.” We’re no detectives, but this message likely was an acronym for “I’m in love with you.”
May 2022: Charli seemingly goes Instagram official with George.
Something between Charli and Daniel materializes during the beginning of 2022, because the “Boom Clap” singer shares an Instagram slideshow from a vacation she takes with Daniel. Under a selection of beachy photos, Charli writes: “a ~ delicious ~ week ~ off ~ 🧚.” However, she later deletes the post.
March 18, 2022: George produces multiple tracks for Charli’s Crash album.
Clearly Charli and Daniel find chemistry in the studio, because a year after they work together for the first time, the hyperpop star teams up with Daniel for her fifth studio album, Crash.
The credits reveal that Daniel is a writer and producer for the title song, on which he also provides vocal chops and drums, as well as bass, synth, and keys programming. Then, when Charli releases the deluxe version of Crash, Daniel contributes to two more songs: “Selfish Girl” and “How Can I Not Know What I Need Right Now.”
On the day of the deluxe album release, Daniel shares his excitement on Instagram, writing, “This delectable deluxe is out 🧊!!!! Loved contributing and also thx ag for having me on crash. Ps hi and new 75 is gonna fuck you up ❤️🔥💚.”
March 4, 2021: Charli and George collaborate on their first song together.
The future lovebirds hit the studio together for the first time in 2021, to work on the song “Spinning” by Filipino pop artist No Rome. The track features Charli XCX and The 1975, with both Charli and Daniel contributing to the songwriting, while Daniel also serves as one of the song’s producers. Later, the song goes on to reach the Top 100 on the U.K., Irish, and New Zealand singles charts.
