Inside Trump’s Inner Circle: Why His Unbreakable Bond with One Aide Is Sparking Quiet Rivalries—And What It Means for Power Plays Ahead
Ever wonder what it’s like to be the ultimate gatekeeper just steps away from the Oval Office? Well, buckle up—because Natalie Harp isn’t your average presidential aide. She’s the unsung maestro behind Trump’s social-media curtain, the one typing his posts (surprise, surprise—it’s not the Prez himself hammering away with his “two short presidential thumbs”). But her story? It’s as messy and chaotic as a circus, complete with leaks, behind-the-scenes brawls, and a firestorm over some downright eyebrow-raising posts. Imagine a Borgia court run by the Marx brothers, but with Twitter fingers wielded like scepters. Two more years of this? Hold onto your hats—it’s going to be a wild ride. LEARN MORE
Somebody in the White House—or, perhaps, someone occasionally photographed there—has it in for Natalie Harp, the suddenly famous presidential aide, and is leaking like a sieve as a result. From The Wall Street Journal:
The intensity of the pushback from Republicans underscored an ironclad truth inside the White House: Harp, according to current and former administration officials, is practically untouchable. Harp spends more time with Trump than any other aide, according to current and former administration officials. She sits at a desk immediately outside the Oval Office. During meetings, Harp can often be found next to Trump, armed with a laptop and phones so she can quickly get the president any contact or piece of information he needs, the officials said.
Harp is one of a small number of aides with direct access to Trump’s Truth Social account. She often brings the president stacks of printed-out draft social-media posts for his approval. Trump sometimes dictates posts to Harp, who posts them on his behalf from her iPhone. She has learned to mimic Trump’s cadence and unique punctuation, the officials said.
You mean the president doesn’t personally type out his posts with his two short presidential thumbs? Tell me about Santa Claus some other time.
Harp serves as both a buffer and sounding board for the president, a role that has at times frustrated some White House staff, according to people familiar with the matter. Some administration officials have privately complained that Harp has shown the president material from far-right groups that is riddled with false or misleading information. … Earlier this year, at Trump’s direction, Harp posted a video that included racist imagery depicting Barack and Michelle Obama as apes, and an AI-generated image of Trump as a Christ-like figure, The Wall Street Journal previously reported. The White House deleted both posts after Trump faced bipartisan criticism. Some people close to the White House said Harp was unfairly blamed for Trump’s posts, noting that the president signs off on all of his social-media content.
Hire clowns, expect a circus.
CNN adds a report from another area of the Big Top.
It was October 2023, and Donald Trump was due at a New York City courthouse to fight his latest set of legal troubles. But as the motorcade idled outside his Trump Tower residence, staffers confronted a more immediate problem: There wasn’t room for Harp, the hyper-loyal aide whose devotion to Trump had quickly entrenched her within his orbit. A screaming match in the lobby ensued, with Harp insisting that Trump had personally asked her to attend the court appearance, two sources familiar with the matter told CNN. Denied a seat but determined not to be left behind, Harp jumped into an SUV trunk, according to the two sources and confirmed by a photo obtained by CNN.
Earlier this year, Trump ignited a firestorm after posting and then deleting a racist video that depicted former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama as apes in a jungle. The late-night post prompted criticism across the political spectrum, sparking a series of damaging news cycles and forcing Trump and his aides to scramble to mount a defense. Within Trump’s orbit, allies and advisers privately speculated that Harp was responsible for the post, as she was one of a small number of aides with access to Trump’s Truth Social account. But they were reluctant to name her, one source told CNN. If they did, they worried the fallout would only further strengthen Trump’s support for Harp.
Two more years. The Cabinet is full of loons and the White House is devolving into a Borgia court run by the Marx brothers. Things are looking up.
