It’s not every day that we catch a royal off the clock, but when we do, it usually involves clothing that doesn’t often see the light of day during their official royal outings.

A few miles away from Balmoral Castle, AKA the private residence of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, the queen consort herself was spotted on a girls’ shopping trip in Ballater, Scotland; and she was joined by her sister, Annabel Elliot, as well as her daughter Laura Lopes, and granddaughter, Eliza.

It was a rare family outing, and Camilla’s look was just as rare, and far more rustic than we’re accustomed to seeing. Instead of the midi dresses and smart businesswear she favors on royal engagements, she opted for a more equestrian, farm-ready outfit.

Her ensemble began with a few layers up top, including a navy V-neck sweater stacked over a light-blue button-down. Both were tucked underneath an olive-green barn jacket with brown corduroy lapels and cuffs, as well as large cargo pockets in front (an outerwear choice that’s frequently embraced by her daughter-in-law Princess Catherine).

Down low, the Queen’s Reading Room founder completed her look with a set of dark-wash jeans with navy socks to match, while slipping into a set of black platform loafers with tassels decorating the vamps.

Camilla was seen happily holding several shopping bags in her hands, as she and her family members visited stores like KT Boutique and the A.B. Yule bookshop.

While it’s not often that we seen Camilla in denim, she’s certainly not the first royal to rock the staple bottoms, as many stylish women, from Kate to Princess Diana, have turned to a good pair of jeans over the years. It just goes to show that the royal uniform is constantly evolving.
