Since becoming the queen consort of Spain in 2014, Queen Letizia has helped to redefine what it means to dress like a royal in the 21st century. Long gone are the stuffy gowns that you might catch on the early seasons of The Crown—instead, Letizia’s wardrobe is defined by chic, contemporary staples, ranging from espadrille wedges to silky slips and breezy button-ups with cheeky chest cutouts. Even when she’s erring on the formal side, the Spanish queen still manages to imbue a bit of romance with whatever she puts together.
And that’s precisely what Letizia did on Thursday afternoon, when she attended the 30th Ibero-American Summit at the El Pardo Royal Palace in Madrid, bringing elegance and style in a pastel suit from Hugo Boss.
Letizia has never shied away from a statement color (think salmon pinks or tomato reds), and here, she chose a rich powder blue, which was a soft, but highly effective choice.
While most people might think to save this hue for spring, it helped Letizia to stand out amongst the sea of navy, maroon, and gray ensembles present at the event.
Her look consisted of a single-breasted, straight-fit jacket paired with matching wide-leg trousers. The blazer featured darting along the slightly-cinched center, along with peak lapels up top and two pockets in front.
Black buttons added a touch of contrast, which Letizia winked to with her double-strap Mary Janes in inky patent-leather, as well as with her obsidian blouse layered underneath.
Notably, the top featured a dramatic pussy-bow scarf along the neck, which puffed out over the lapels of the blazer like a cravat. (Over the years, the queen has certainly shown her affinity for this type of neckline.)
With enough drama happening with the outfit, Letizia kept it simple with her accessories, adding only a dainty pair of drop earrings, and some silver rings.
It just goes to show that a buttoned-up look doesn’t—and shouldn’t—have to mean boring.
