Seiko, as a watchmaker and a brand, frequently takes the opportunity to honor its heritage: not only its own rich horological history, but also the wider artistic heritage of Japan as a country. This time, Seiko has collaborated with the Tomioka Silk Promotion Organization, established in 2021 to preserve the silk-farming industry in Japan’s Tomioka region, on a limited-edition dress watch.

The Seiko Presage Classic Series x Tomioka Silk Promotion Organization Limited-Edition in White Shiro-neri – Gunma-Hoso is a watch that celebrates one of Japan’s most treasured cultural traditions, and some of the money from sales will be donated to support the future of the country’s silk production industry. Its dial features a white wave pattern and a pearl-painted finish aimed to capture the sheen of the region’s premium silk. Meanwhile, the rose-gold-colored case, knurled bezel, and textured dark brown leather strap add another elegant touch.

Looking premium doesn’t mean it’s not impressive on the inside: the watch is powered by Seiko’s in-house 6R51 automatic caliber, with a +25/-15-second-per-day accuracy and a 45-hour power reserve, and it’s also water-resistant to 330 feet, which is more than durable enough for a high-end dress watch.

The watch will be released in July and priced at $1,150. That makes it more on the premium end of the brand’s standard offerings, but given how much it looks like a Grand Seiko, we think it’s well worth the price. If you’re pondering, think fast, as it’s limited to just 2,000 pieces worldwide.
