This Wild New MAGA Claim Is Sweeping the Nation – But What’s the Real Story Behind It?
So here I am, still clinging to my Xwitter account—not because I’m some social media junkie—but to keep an eye on the circus that national politics has turned into. Over the past week, the MAGA crowd cooked up what might just be the dumbest stunt I’ve ever witnessed in my scrolling escapades. It all ignited with King Charles III’s speech to Congress, sparking a baffling uproar of hypocrisy accusations from Republican officeholders and those self-proclaimed “influencers.” Seriously, are we really debating democratic hypocrisy over applauding a monarch while simultaneously railing against kings? It’s like watching your brain drop faster than a bowling ball down a well. And just when you think it can’t get more ludicrous, it somehow does—welcome to the grand theater of American politics, where logic often takes the backseat. Ready to dive into this madness? Hold tight. LEARN MORE
I have maintained my Xwitter account, mostly because I don’t want anyone to steal it, but also to keep tabs on what the national monkeyhouse is jabbering about. Ordinarily, I wouldn’t trouble the shebeen with the jabbering. But over the last week, a new theme has erupted among the MAGA crowd. I am not exaggerating when I say this might be the dumbest goddamn thing I ever read. It all began as a reaction to King Charles III’s speech to Congress. And, to the surprise of absolutely nobody, Republican officeholders and wing nut “influencers” chimed in. Okay? All set? Get ready for your IQ to drop like a bowling ball down a well.
From Mediaite:
During a panel discussion about the king’s visit to Washington, D.C. on Piers Morgan Uncensored on Wednesday, [Ben] Ferguson mocked, “I also love the fact that he was able to unite the Democratic party that had spent millions of dollars on ‘No Kings’ rallies, but gave him a standing ovation. Like, the hypocrisy moment there for me was worth the entire trip, that they’re like, ‘We have no kings, we shouldn’t have kings,’ but, ‘Oh! We’ve got a king here today!’” As host Piers Morgan laughed, Ferguson continued, “And Democrats, by the way, were clamoring for any event that he was going to be attending. They wanted to go to the night and to the garden party at the U.K. embassy. They were begging for tickets. So for a party that says they stand up to no kings, they sure as hell wanted to hang out with a king for the last 48 hours in Washington, D.C. Hypocrisy 101.”
Also, too. From The Hill:
Senator Ashley Moody (R-Fla.) asked on the social platform X, “Why did I just watch every Democrat in Congress stand and clap for an actual King?” The Florida Republican included screengrabs of her Democratic colleagues rising to applaud the British monarch during his address to a joint meeting of Congress.”So, what happened to ‘No Kings,’” the Republican National Committee wrote on X, posting a screengrab of Democrats commending the monarch. “Democrats ‘standing,’ at the SOTU for President Trump vs. Democrats standing during King Charles III’s speech,” Hunt wrote. “The politics of hypocrisy. The next time a ‘NO KINGS,’ protest rolls through a town near you, show them this.” Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-Texas) shared to X a video juxtaposing Democrats electing not to stand during Trump’s State of the Union address in February but standing when Charles acknowledged the upcoming 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Do I really have to explain how howlingly loony this stuff is? Do I have to explain how sad it makes me that there are millions of my fellow citizens who believe this is such a brilliant riposte that they adopt it, publicly, as their own? It is to weep, although I admit the trope has a nugget of humor in it when you remember how charmingly subservient the president has been to the various oil sheikhs of the Gulf states. Hold the orb, Mr. President!
