The second season of Paramount+’s smash-hit crime drama MobLand hasn’t even come to a close yet, and we’ve already got a hint about what the third season may hold for one of the show’s central characters.

At a Paramount UK “Upfront” event in London on the evening of October 22, actor Peter Sarsgaard sat for an in-conversation event with Kenneth Branagh and executive producer David Glasser, which was primarily about the show that the three are working on together, Laird.

However, Glasser also shared a bit of a hint about the next season of MobLand, which he also works on, and what will be in store for the show’s central character: Harry Da Souza, played by Tom Hardy. If you’ll remember, Hardy’s presence in season 3 was temporarily in doubt after rumors of on-set tension with his co-stars, but whatever happened—if at all—the actor is clearly still committed to the gangster drama.

Glasser revealed that the recently confirmed season 3 will see “someone challenge Tom Hardy“, but he refused to elaborate any further, or share any more about the series. Today’s episode brings a shock killing, rapidly escalating stakes (though, realistically, they’re always rapidly escalating in a show like this), so the threat (or promise?) of a new challenger to Da Souza means that we’re likely going to see a new enemy in the vein of Johnny Flynn’s menacing Frankie Cooper every season.

If there’s anything to take away from this tiny golden nugget of season 3 information, it’s that they’re never going to stop finding ways to keep MobLand fresh. And that, at least, is a very promising offer.
