Fall is officially creeping in, and Halloween isn’t far behind.
The nights are getting a little cooler, spooky-season decor is starting to appear and it’s becoming increasingly acceptable to spend an evening on the couch rewatching the movies that somehow feel better this time of year.

If you’re already building your Halloween watchlist, consider this an easy place to start.
From one of horror’s most recognizable slashers to a pair of spooky-season favourites that lean more fun than frightening, these three movies make an easy fall movie night. Sailor Jerry shared a cocktail pairing for each, giving you one more reason to lean into the season early.
Halloween (1978)
If you’re putting together a Halloween movie marathon, John Carpenter’s Halloween is an obvious place to start.
The 1978 slasher introduced audiences to Michael Myers and helped shape the genre as we know it, following Laurie Strode through a Halloween night that becomes increasingly terrifying.
For a movie this classic, the drink doesn’t need to be complicated. The pairing here is a simple spiced rum and Coke finished with orange peel.
Sailor Jerry Rum and Coke
Ingredients
- 1.5 oz Sailor Jerry Rum
- 1 oz Coca-Cola
- Orange peel, for garnish
How to make it
Pour the rum and Coca-Cola over ice in a glass and stir gently. Garnish with an orange peel.
Beetlejuice (1988)
Not every Halloween movie needs to be scary.
Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice has become a spooky-season fixture thanks to its ghosts, gothic visuals, dark humour and one very chaotic bio-exorcist. It’s the kind of movie that works just as well for a fall movie night as it does for a Halloween party later in the season.
The cocktail pairing takes a similarly playful approach, mixing spiced rum with apple, lime and lemon-lime soda for something bright and fizzy.

Apple Rum Fizz
Ingredients
- 1.5 oz Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum
- 1 oz apple juice
- 0.5 oz fresh lime juice
- 0.5 oz simple syrup
- 2 oz lemon-lime soda
- Green apple slice, for garnish
How to make it
Add the rum, apple juice, lime juice and simple syrup to a shaker with ice. Shake well, then strain into an ice-filled glass. Top with lemon-lime soda and garnish with a green apple slice.
Hocus Pocus (1993)
Few movies signal the start of Halloween season quite like Hocus Pocus.
The Sanderson sisters have been returning to screens every fall for decades, making the 1993 Disney favourite one of those films that feels almost inseparable from October.
Its cocktail pairing goes darker and fruitier, combining blackberry, cranberry and lime with spiced rum before finishing everything with soda water.
Blackberry Cranberry Rum Cocktail
Ingredients
- 1.5 oz Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum
- 1 oz blackberry liqueur
- 2 oz cranberry juice
- 0.75 oz fresh lime juice
- 0.5 oz simple syrup
- Splash of soda water
- Blackberries, for garnish
How to make it
Add the rum, blackberry liqueur, cranberry juice, lime juice and simple syrup to a shaker with ice. Shake well and strain into an ice-filled rocks glass. Top with a splash of soda water and garnish with blackberries.
Consider Spooky Season Started

Halloween may still be a few weeks away, but September is when the anticipation starts to become part of the fun.
So pull out the blankets, start working through your fall watchlist and mix up something that matches the movie. By the time October 31 rolls around, you’ll already be well into spooky-season mode.
Please enjoy responsibly.
