Let’s face it, it’s hard to have a good laugh these days. Costly wars and expensive groceries have made daily existence downright unbearable. But that’s why we still turn to the movies. There’s no better chicken soup for the soul than two-plus hours in a dark theater, or on the couch with your favorite take-out. It feels like 2026 has just begun, but the first quarter happens to have a handful of pretty good comedies that will get you laughing well into the summer.

In February, things kicked off on a high note with The Wrecking Crew, a Prime Video action-comedy in which Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa flex their leading man muscles to play estranged brothers who make a mess of Hawaii in a war against the yakuza. At SXSW in March, I Love Boosters, Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice, and Pizza Movie (with Stranger Things’ Gaten Matarazzo) split the sides of Austin attendees. And somehow, Pixar’s Hoppers has become one of the highest-grossing movies of the entire year.

The year is far from over, with still more movies to come. But for now, these are the best comedies of 2026. And when you’re done laughing, why not fire up a new action movie for a killer double feature?

Hoppers

After years of a creative and financial slump, Pixar has found its groove again with Hoppers. Essentially Animal Farm meets Avatar, Hoppers tells the story of a genius college student whose breakthrough science experiment lets her become a beaver who can communicate with animals. Though her efforts to help animals seem promising at first, she quickly realizes what really happens when animals (and bugs!) fight back against mankind. Directed by We Bare Bears creator Daniel Chong, Hoppers is an easygoing, family-friendly romp through the wilderness.

Cold Storage

Liam Neeson continues his funny streak in the action-comedy Cold Storage. Joe Keery of Stranger Things plays a slacker employee of a storage facility who, along with his cute coworker (Georgina Campbell), discovers a deadly, mutating fungus. Teaming up with a grizzled federal agent (Neeson), the three work to save the world. Basically a modern-day Outbreak, Cold Storage isn’t one to leave dormant on your watchlist.

Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice

One of the coolest movies to premiere out of SXSW was the Hulu original Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice, from writer/director BenDavid Grabinski. A loan shark (Vince Vaughn) uses a time machine to undo one bad night involving his close friend (James Marsden) and his wife (Eiza González). Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice is the kind of movie you want when the pizza is hot, the beers are cold, and your friends are indecisive about what you all want to watch.

I Love Boosters

Boots Riley, the writer and director of Sorry to Bother You, does it again with his crime caper I Love Boosters. In this anticapitalist satire, a crew of professional thieves works to take down a ruthless fashion giant (Demi Moore). Keke Palmer, Naomi Ackie, Taylour Paige, Poppy Liu, Eiza González, and more make up this delirious ensemble that takes Ocean’s Eleven and dresses it in hyper-surreal shades. Following its buzzy premiere at SXSW, I Love Boosters will open in theaters on May 22.

Solo Mio

Sometimes, we need a nauseatingly cute rom-com. Kevin James (yes, The King of Queens) stars in this breezy and uplifting comedy about a man who, after being left at the altar at his wedding, goes on his Italian honeymoon solo. While there, he makes new friends and even deeper connections with strangers halfway around the world. A feel-good flick about new beginnings, Solo Mio can lift you high when you’re feeling down.

Pizza Movie

A stoner comedy? In 2026? In this economy?? Well, the streaming generation can finally know what it’s like to have their own Harold & Kumar with Pizza Movie. Gaten Matarazzo and Sean Giambrone star as college roommates and social pariahs who, while high on a new hallucinogenic drug, embark on a psychedelic odyssey to make it downstairs and get their pizza delivery. Despite a popular meme mocking the movie’s marketing, Pizza Movie performed well with critics at its SXSW premiere.
