Anne Hathaway has had a busy awards season, but she’s simultaneously been serving dreamy nail inspiration—first with “coconut jelly” nails for summer and now with the perfect fall color. While attending the New York premiere of her upcoming film Verity, Hathaway debuted “cherry noir” nails that might be fall’s easiest nail trend to recreate.

The actress worked with celebrity manicurist Mo Quin to create a sultry look that expertly captures the movie’s aura. “We chose a deep, dark red for Verity to bring a slightly mysterious and dramatic feeling to the nails, tying the look back to the mood of the film and her character,” Quin says of the look. Not only is the moody bordeaux hue approachable, but the shape is, too. Quin opted for a short, square shape, which keeps it fresh and timeless.

Quin started by prepping the nails and shaping them into a square shape before applying a base coat from Essie. Then, she painted Hathaway’s nails with two coats of Essie’s Model Clicks gel polish in a rich burgundy shade and finished with a top coat. For extra shine, she added the Essie Apricot Cuticle Oil.

Hathaway usually goes neutral with her nails, but this hue is more of a statement for the actress. And although “quiet luxury” nails are trending, burgundy colors, alongside brown-forward shades and taupes, feel on theme for fall but also pared back enough to act as a neutral.
