Unlock the Secret Scent: How Gap Beauty’s New Fragrance Line Could Elevate Your Confidence and Wellness Game Instantly
You ever wondered if a classic mall brand could make a comeback so powerful it practically slaps you in the face with nostalgia—while also smelling fresh enough to turn heads today? Well, Gap just did that. From the late ‘60s staple of casual wear to front-page collaborations with Victoria Beckham and Hailey Bieber, Gap has long been the heavyweight champ of mall brands. But here’s the kicker: their fragrance line, which many of us only whispered about in the ’90s, is back—and it’s not playing games. Gap Beauty’s relaunch after a 30-year hiatus is blending the old-school charm of iconic scents like Grass and Dream with a modern punch that’s impossible to ignore. Whether you’re a fragrance nerd or just looking to upgrade your scent game without breaking the bank, this collection means business. So, let’s dive in and see how Gap is mixing that nostalgic essence with today’s long-lasting, layered luxury. LEARN MORE
It’s more than fair to say that in recent years, the Gap has set the standard for success among its competitors as one of the most popular “mall brands” worth shopping. While the Gap has been in existence since the late ‘60s, designer Zac Posen’s appointment as executive vice president and creative director in 2024, along with several high-profile collaborations with stars like Victoria Beckham and Hailey Bieber since, have helped propel the company further into the zeitgeist.
Of course, the Gap is largely regarded as a fashion brand. But those old enough to remember the first iteration of the company’s viral Happy Stripe sweater might also recall their original fragrance collection from 1994. Initially launched as an entry point into the beauty industry, Gap Beauty’s accessible and personalizable approach to scent felt extremely inclusive and nuanced for the time. Consisting of beloved blends such as Grass and Dream, the line was highly popular with consumers before its discontinuation in the early 2000s. But today, Gap Beauty is officially back after a 30-year hiatus, with a new fragrance collection that’s actually better than ever.
“Gap has a real opportunity in beauty, and fragrance is where that story starts,” says Deb Redmond, head of beauty at Gap Inc. “We were rigorous about the technical journey, maintaining the core DNA of the original scents while modernizing the formulations for how people actually wear fragrance today. Gap has always made quality feel within reach. This collection is that same commitment, applied to beauty.”
Similar to Gap Beauty’s fragrance line from the ‘90s, this new drop features several familiar scents that are reimagined for the present day, including the floral Dream, solar Heaven, fresh and vibrant Grass, and woody Om eau de parfums. And to round out the latest collection, Gap worked closely with DSM-Firmenich perfumers Honorine Blanc and Nicole Mancini to develop the playful gourmand scent, Harmony. Another point of difference between the original line and the new launch? The O.G. versions were released as eau de toilettes, while this eau de parfum line is much longer lasting, featuring a 20 percent concentration of scent.

Dream Eau de Parfum
“I can’t say I remember what the original Dream smelled like, although I must have smelled it at one point. But what I can say is that this version smells like a ‘mall perfume’ in the best way, and I mean that as the highest compliment. By mall perfume, I mean the freezing cold smell of a retail store from the early aughts. Bergamot, jasmine, and cedarwood are three of my favorite notes, so it’s no surprise that I love this. It’s so easy to wear, easy to layer, and almost impossible to dislike.” —Jenna Rosenstein, beauty director
- Best for: Lovers of floral and citrus scents
- Key notes: Italian bergamot, jasmine, cedarwood
Closest to its original scent, Dream eau de parfum is a floral musk that opens with a jasmine note straight out of the bottle before blooming on the skin with freesia and orange blossom accords. “Everybody loved this fragrance, so I needed to stay close to the original but add something new,” explained master perfumer Honorine Blanc during a press preview of the fragrance collection.
“We wanted to make the fragrance more long-lasting, more diffusive. And since 1994, our consumer has evolved. I kept the structure and code of the formula. So when people go buy it, they’ll say, ‘Okay, this is my Dream.’” Blanc and team consider the perfume the “white T-shirt” of the collection, as it represents a clean, fresh scent that a majority of fragrance aficionados love.
Heaven Eau de Parfum
“I love anything with vanilla, and this scent smells sweet, but not overwhelmingly so. It smells like a perfume I would’ve worn as a teenager but also as an adult.” —Nicole Frazzini, senior content strategy manager
- Best for: Vanilla lovers, gourmand fans
- Key notes: pear, Madagascar vanilla, patchouli
Heaven eau de parfum is truly nostalgia in a bottle, with a warm, comforting scent that isn’t cloying and intensely familiar. “The original Heaven fragrance, I don’t know if you remember it, but it was very aldehydic, musky, and floral,” says master perfumer Nicole Mancini. “We resmelled it again, and it was pretty dated. But I wanted to use that musky floral seed, but now bring it to 2026. So I’m using our proprietary molecule called Ember Ever. It’s a captive. It’s very strong, and it’s very long lasting, and we know that’s really important, especially to our Gen Z consumers. Long-lasting, sillage—that’s all I see on TikTok about Fragrance-maxxing.”
Grass Eau de Parfum
“The Grass in the ‘90s smelled exactly like fresh cut grass, like someone was mowing the lawn. This version smells more like a typical perfume—it still has that grassy note, but feels more complex.” —Izzy Grinspan, digital director
- Best for: fans of fresh accords
- Key notes: green mandarin, matcha, Virginia cedar
If you can’t physically take yourself to an open field, spritzing on Gap Grass eau de parfum is probably the next best thing. A more robust fragrance blend compared to its eau de toilette counterpart, this new take on the scent is an expression of the outdoors as a sanctuary, and a reflection of what greenery and groundedness mean indoors.
“I thought of matcha, tea, just giving that feeling of being connected to nature, a feeling of groundedness, of lightness,” continues Mancini. “The idea of getting off our digital screens and really feeling something, like when you go outside, you feel this, you know, chance to breathe and express yourself.” The fragrance’s opening of bright mandarin essence aims to replicate the feeling of sunshine on your face, along with notes of matcha and Virginia cedar that combine for a meditative blend that awakens the senses.
Om Eau de Parfum
“I’m a fan of all the new Gap Beauty eau de parfums, but Om is far and away my favorite. As soon as I spritzed the scent on my skin, I was in love, especially since it’s anchored by sandalwood, one of my all-time favorite notes. The timelessly musky scent is perfect for just about any season or occasion, and date night in particular.” —Tiffany Dodson Davis
- Best for: fans of skin scents and musk
- Key notes: ginger, sandalwood, cedar
“It’s funny, when we started working on this project, we smelled Om again, and I thought, ‘Oh my gosh, it’s still on trend!’ So for me, Om was already ahead of the trends. It represents this artsy, self-confident, downtown person—I imagine myself at the Chelsea Hotel,” adds Blanc. If Dream is like the white T-shirt of the new scent collection, then the perfumer says Om is the leather jacket that accompanies it. Its cozy notes of resin, sandalwood, and cedar evoke a quiet confidence and easy intimacy that make you want to reach for the scent again and again.
Harmony Eau de Parfum
“Harmony is the newest fragrance from Gap, and not part of the original collection. It definitely feels the newest in that it’s very sweet and bright, with notes of apricot nectar, gardenia, and amber. The scent is a fruity gourmand, and while a little sweet for my taste, I can see this fragrance being super popular with Gen Z and beyond. ” —JR
- Best for: fans of fruit-forward perfumes; Gourmand lovers
- Key notes: apricot nectar, gardenia, amber
Picture the distinctive scent of your favorite childhood fruit gummies. Now, imagine a more sophisticated take on that juicy flavor captured in an addictive fragrance for adults—that’s the essence of Harmony eau de parfum. “When I looked at the line, I realized that we were missing something with more color, with more energy, something vibrant, something fun, something playful,” continues Blanc. “It’s a totally new approach. It’s a new feeling. It’s a new emotion because we wanted to capture in this line different kinds of emotions.”
The new Gap Fragrance collection is available at gap.com starting at $20 for 10ml size bottles and a five-piece discovery kit.
