According to Wild, “the gamine pixie is a cooler, softer predecessor to the classic ’90s pixie.” It evokes Audrey Hepburn’s tapered micro-crop from the years following Roman Holiday, but Wild says that braver clients can adapt the “short, boyish feel” to make it more delicate and current.

“You can add a fringe or leave a little more length around the ears so you can tuck the hair behind them, which makes the look less severe,” he suggests. “It’s also a great cut for growing out, because it evolves beautifully as the hair gets longer”; Zendaya is a prime example of the latter.
