US-based biotechnology company CoreFX Ingredients LLC is establishing its European headquarters in Ireland as it expands its focus on nutritional technology, research and commercial growth.

The company has set up CoreNhanced Biotechnology Limited in Ireland, with support from Enterprise Ireland and in collaboration with Teagasc Moorepark.

The new operation will focus on scientific innovation, technology development and customer collaboration, with CoreFX aiming to develop technologies that improve the performance of bioactive molecules during manufacturing, throughout shelf life and in the body.

CoreFX said Ireland was selected because of its strengths in food science, biotechnology and research collaboration, as well as its access to scientific talent.

Enterprise Ireland has worked with the company since 2023 on its European strategy, research collaborations and leadership development.

Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment Peter Burke said the investment was “a strategically important investment for Ireland by a leading international nutritional technology company”.

“CoreFX’s decision to invest and open this facility further positions Ireland internationally as a hub for biotechnology and food science and is a major signal of confidence in the quality of the Irish food innovation sector,” he said.

CoreFX founder and CEO Denis Neville said establishing the European headquarters in Ireland was “personally meaningful”, but said the decision was driven by the country’s capabilities in science and innovation.

“Ireland has become one of the world’s leading centers for food science, biotechnology, and innovation,” he said.

“By combining the scientific excellence of Teagasc Moorepark with Enterprise Ireland’s vision and support, we are creating an innovation platform that will accelerate how breakthrough nutritional technologies move from research into commercial reality for customers across Europe and beyond.”

The Irish operation has launched with a three-person scientific team comprising a senior scientist, scientist and junior scientist.

Trevor Dunne, CoreFX’s managing director of Europe, will lead the company’s commercial growth, customer partnerships and strategic expansion across the region.

He brings more than 20 years’ international experience in the food, flavour and nutrition sectors.

Teagasc said the partnership would allow CoreFX to draw on Moorepark’s research capabilities to develop value-added ingredients and the foods in which they are used.
