It’s been almost two years since Kim Jones exited two of fashion’s most influential houses, Dior and Fendi. It’s been almost 20 since he shuttered his eponymous label, which he launched in 2003. But this more, Jones—one of the industry’s most celebrated designers, particularly for his work in the menswear space—announced that he will will design once more under his own name, with his first collection slotted for Fall 2027.

Of course, the designer’s reputation precedes him. Jones first launched his own label in 2003 after a stellar graduate collection at CSM, which was partially bought up by John Galliano. He shuttered it in 2008 to lead the British tailoring and luxury goods brand Dunhill. Three years later, he joined Louis Vuitton’s menswear division as style director. Then in March of 2018, Dior Men appointed him artistic director. While there, he began working as artistic director at Fendi in September 2020, succeeding Karl Lagerfeld as head of couture, ready-to-wear, and fur. He departed Fendi in late 2024 and Dior in early 2025.

Jones’s work was particularly revolutionary in the menswear space, but his effect was felt across the industry. What he did at those houses was monumental: he lent a contemporary streetwear sensibility to each of their individual high fashion legacies, rigorously mining their archives then updating those themes with influences from athleticwear, music, art, and youth subcultures.

Born in London, he traveled the world with his hydrologist father and learned to see fashion through more than just a Western lens, an education evident across his work. He was a pioneer in the brand collaboration space before it was so commonplace. In 2017, he launched Louis Vuitton’s first collaboration with Supreme and continued championing this practice while at Dior, working with Stüssy, jewelry designer and Ambush co-founder Yoon Ahn, Daniel Arsham, ERL, and many more. All of this he debuted at spectacular fashion shows at which stars and loyal fans like David Beckham, Kate Moss, Travis Scott, and more sat front row.

Not only did he make his luxury fashion more accessible—in concept, if not price—he was a key player in elevating the world of streetwear for a more highbrow audience in the 2010s. He did not design in a vacuum, but paid attention to what was going on in pop culture. His work exuded a love of creativity and the people who make creative work. And he had a particular fondness for British uniforms and culture.

Dior Spring 2021

Jones has spent the past two years focusing his attention on smaller projects. In 2025, he assumed the role of creative director for Areal, a new high-end urbanwear line under Chinese outerwear giant Bosideng, carving out more space for the ever-growing focus on high-fashion performancewear. And this summer, he launched a collaboration with Aman Essentials, the lifestyle product line attached to the luxury hospitality group.

With his new line, he plans to explore not just fashion but also art and design. The fashion component will focus on versatility for both men and women, looking beyond fashion’s traditional categories. Jones will produce predominantly in Japan, with leather goods made in Italy. His first store is slated to open in Hong Kong in October 2027 with additional stores across Asia and international retail partners expected to follow.

This will be the first time in almost 20 years we are seeing his vision without filtering it through the lens of an established house. But with all of that work to build upon, we look forward to seeing what he has to say about fashion in 2026.
