The appointment forms part of Virgin Media Television‘s continued focus on delivering public service journalism through independent and accessible news coverage.
Commenting on his appointment, Coleman said he was delighted to take on the role full-time after enjoying his time as presenter over recent months.
“It’s a hugely important space for discussion and debate, and it plays a big role in how we talk about the issues that matter,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to building on that and continuing to bring viewers a programme that feels engaging, relevant and in tune with what’s happening across the country.”
Virgin Media Television’s Head of News, Ruairi Carroll, said Coleman had already made a significant impact during his time as guest presenter.
“Shane has a deep understanding of current affairs and has already made a significant impact during his time as guest presenter of The Tonight Show,” Carroll said.

“His appointment reflects our commitment to public service journalism – ensuring our audiences are informed, challenged and engaged through balanced, rigorous and independent coverage.”
