Watching ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ as a pre-teen was a formative experience for me—and a big reason I ended up working in magazines and fashion. So, the sequel dropping later this week feels like a full-circle moment. I’ve spent years curating a perfectly versatile capsule wardrobe and have my office outfits down to a science, but suddenly, I’m itching to channel my inner Andy Sachs and revisit the looks that made me fall in love with fashion in the first place.
So, if you ever wanted to look like you clock in at Runway—without an expense account or a fashion closet full of samples—I’ve got you. Think Miranda’s razor-sharp tailoring, Emily’s edgy statement pieces, and Andy’s iconic glow-up staples (minus the couture price tag). I studied the movie’s on-set photos and found affordable pieces to recreate our fave characters’ most high-fashion looks—no cerulean sweater monologue required.
Andy
I’d like to think Andy and I have a few things in common—our style, determination, and career path—but if one thing is certain, it’s our mutual love for a great monochrome fit. There’s just something so chic about tonal dressing, and this white t-shirt and relaxed pant combo hits all the right notes. The pointed-toe heel keeps the outfit polished, the extra-long back of the shirt adds a bit of drama, and the black bag gives the outfit the perfect amount of contrast.
I love this more relaxed (but still stylish!) outfit Andy sports while hitting the streets of New York. She could be grabbing coffee before a meeting or running errands on her day off—I guess we’ll just have to wait to find out. Personally, this outfit would totally work in my office, but you could easily dress it up with a black blazer instead of the waistcoat and swap the sandals for a heel or ballet flat.
Miranda
Another monochrome outfit—this time from Miranda Priestly herself. I would expect nothing less than a totally chic and tailored outfit from the editor-in-chief of Runway. Like lots of tonal outfits, this one is super easy to recreate with your go-to blazer, a matching skirt, tank, and heels. Throw on a belt and sunnies, and you’re basically on your way to sit front row during Paris Fashion Week.
It wouldn’t be a Miranda outfit without a killer red stiletto (a la the iconic movie poster). In an otherwise neutral outfit, the shoe is the star of the show here, paired with a simple ensemble of well-fitting basics. Grab your favorite long beige coat, navy slacks, and white button-down—you’ve likely got most the look in your closet already.
Emily
And Emily…I’m obsessed with this matching set. That’s all. The pinstriped co-ord looks cohesive, clean, and gives major girl-boss energy. The best part about a matching set is that they usually require minimal styling, but I love the choice to layer a white button-down underneath the vest to really make the look pop.
This look (filmed on the streets of Paris) is a bit more feminine than most of her other outfits, but the grungy shoe choice makes it feel quintessential Emily. The tonal look up top with a suede jacket, tank, open cardigan, and satin skirt, provides the perfect contrast with her black ankle boots.
