Netflix’s Bold Move in Ireland Could Reshape Streaming—and Your Wallet—Sooner Than You Think

So, Netflix is about to shake up the streaming scene in Ireland next year by rolling out its ad-supported subscription plans — and honestly, it got me thinking: how much are we really willing to tolerate ads sneaking into our binge-watching marathons? After first dipping its toes into ad tiers in 2022 across major markets like the US, UK, and Australia, Netflix is boldly expanding to 15 new countries in 2027, including Ireland, where subscription prices currently hover between €10.99 and €23.99 a month. Imagine cutting your monthly bill almost in half by enduring just a handful of ads — roughly five minutes per hour of streaming — all while still enjoying 1080p quality on two devices. Smart move or streaming sacrilege? With 325 million paying subscribers worldwide and over 80% of ad-subscribers tuning in weekly, Netflix isn’t just testing waters here; they’re diving headfirst, armed with cutting-edge ad tech and plans to roll out podcasts and vertical videos to advertisers. It’s clear: the game has changed, and whether you love it or loathe it, ads on Netflix are coming — ready to compete with anyone and everyone. Curious to see exactly what’s on the horizon? Netflix has announced that it will make advertising-supported subscriptions available in Ireland next year.

The streaming giant said that it would roll out ad plans to 15 countries in 2027, including Austria, Belgium, Colombia, Denmark, Indonesia, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland and Thailand.

Netflix first launched its ad tier in late 2022, and its ad-supported plans are currently available in markets such as the US, UK, Australia, Japan, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain.

In the UK, Netflix charges users a lower fee of £5.99 per month for the ad-supported subscription compared to £12.99 for the standard ad-free option.

Accounts on both plans offer streaming in 1080p and can be used on up to two devices. The premium plan is £18.99 per month and offers 4K ultra HD streaming on up to four devices.

In Ireland, Netflix’s prices currently range from €10.99 to €23.99 per month.

Users with ad-supported subscriptions typically view around five minutes of adverts per hours of video streaming before and during films and episodes of series.

At the end of 2025, Netflix has 325m global paid subscribers, and the company claims its ad plans now reach more than 250m viewers per month and that over 80% of ad subscribers watch every week.

“We’ve got cutting-edge technology, we’ve got great entertainment across shows, movies, podcasts, and live events, and we’ve got the most engaged and attentive audience,” said Amy Reinhard, president of advertising at Netflix.
