Fierce Mild Just Blew Past All Expectations — Here’s What Fueled Their Explosive Growth This Month

Imagine this: alcohol consumption in Ireland is dipping, yet the clink of beer glasses is far from fading away. How’s that for a curveball? Fierce Mild, a non-alcoholic beer brand, just shattered its own records in June, riding a phenomenal five-fold surge in sales volumes compared to last year—right when per capita alcohol consumption took a 2.1% nosedive. That’s no coincidence; it’s a paradigm shift. Beer still reigns supreme in Ireland’s beverage kingdom with a hefty 42.1% share, but the real disruptor? Non-alcoholic beer volumes have been sprinting ahead, growing nearly 6% last year and a whopping 39% since 2020. Fierce Mild isn’t just a sideline player anymore—they’re stocked in over 600 stores across Ireland, turning the idea of social drinking into something far more inclusive, flavorful, and independent. So here’s the million-dollar question: as Irish drinkers rethink their choices, will homegrown trailblazers like Fierce Mild rewrite the rules of the game or will global giants keep the reins? Buckle up—this story’s just getting started. LEARN MORE

Non-alcoholic beer brand Fierce Mild recorded its strongest trading period to date in June as alcohol consumption continued to fall.

The company has reported a five-fold increase in sales volumes year-on-year after per capita alcohol consumption declined 2.1% last year to 35.6% below its 2001 peak, according to the Drinks Industry Group of Ireland.

Beer remains Ireland’s largest drinks category with a 42.1% share, although total beer consumption volume declined by 2.7% last year.

Meanwhile, non-alcoholic beer volumes grew by 5.9%, and the category has grown by more than 39% since 2020.

Fierce Mild welcomed the figures. The brand’s non-alcoholic beers are now available at more than 600 stores throughout Ireland, including Tesco, Dunnes Stores and Avoca through distribution partner Classic Drinks.

Speaking about the falling drinking levels, co-founder of Fierce Mild Cathal Byrne said: “The data tells a clear story: Irish adults are drinking less alcohol, but beer remains firmly part of how we socialise.

“What’s changing is the choice people are making within the category.

“Our five-fold growth in June reflects the growing appetite for great-tasting non-alcoholic beer.”

Co-founder Fergal Carroll commented that the non-alcoholic beer category is “moving quickly, but choice is still dominated by alcohol-free extensions of established global beer brands.

“We’re building a genuinely independent Irish specialist with its own products, flavour and personality – a brand that belongs within Irish drinking culture rather than sitting at the edge of it.”

Fierce Mild is midway through a €700,000 fundraising round to increase employment, working capital, distribution, consumer sampling, marketing and selected export opportunities.

“The commercial opportunity is significant, but the bigger question is whether Ireland will build strong homegrown brands in this category or increasingly rely on imported ones,” said Byrne.

“We believe an Irish company can compete successfully at home and ultimately bring a distinctly Irish non-alcoholic beer to international markets.”
