The Trinity St James’s Cancer Institute (TSJCI) has been selected to host the Organisation of European Cancer Institutes (OECI) Oncology Days in 2027, marking the first time the flagship European cancer conference will be held in Ireland.
The announcement was made at the 2026 OECI Oncology Days in Warsaw, one of Europe’s largest gatherings of oncology professionals.
More than 400 clinicians, researchers, healthcare leaders and policy stakeholders attended the event, which focused on improving cancer services through stronger networks, integrated care pathways and collaboration across health systems.
TSJCI, Ireland’s only designated Comprehensive Cancer Centre, is a partnership between Trinity College Dublin and St James’s Hospital.
The institute combines patient care, research, education and training to advance new approaches to cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
The decision to bring the 2027 conference to Dublin is seen as recognition of Ireland’s growing influence within the European oncology community and its increasing involvement in major cancer initiatives, including Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan and the EU Cancer Mission.
Professor Linda Doyle, Provost of Trinity College Dublin, described the selection as “a major milestone” for both the institute and the wider Irish cancer sector.
“It reflects the progress we have made in positioning our leadership at the European level in delivering high-quality, integrated cancer care and our valuable contribution to regional cooperation and research in cancer systems,” she said.
Professor Mary Day, Chief Executive Officer of St James’s Hospital, said hosting the event would highlight Ireland’s strengths in cancer care, research and education.
“Hosting the OECI Oncology Days will shine a spotlight on Ireland’s capability in cancer care, research and education, and reinforces our ambition to be at the forefront of healthcare innovation in Europe,” she said.
The conference is expected to bring leading cancer specialists and healthcare decision-makers from across Europe to Dublin, providing an opportunity to showcase Ireland’s expertise while strengthening international partnerships in cancer research and patient care.
