Is that a bird? A plane? No, it’s Rhaenyra and Daemon Targaryen’s dragons as they circle above King’s Landing! The exciting moment—now four years in the making—was finally teased in the official trailer for House of the Dragon season 3, which returns to screens this summer.
The HBO fantasy drama premieres on Sunday, June 21. The episode follows a lackluster season 2 finale of the Game of Thrones prequel/spinoff, which left fans hanging as they anticipated a massive battle. The event is rumored to take place right away as the actions begins in season 3, according to showrunner Ryan Condal, who called the Battle of the Gullet the “craziest episode of TV ever made.”
Spirits are high for the franchise once again following the more focused prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Plus, British actor James Norton (House of Guinness, Happy Valley) is set to join the third season as Rhaenyra and Daemon’s new rival, Ormund Hightower.
The series is currently set to conclude with season 4 in 2028. Outside of House of the Dragon, HBO renewed A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms for season 2 and green-lit a Game of Thrones film, titled Aegon’s Conquest, which will reportedly take place another hundred years before House of the Dragon.
