Widow’s Bay Season 2: The Shocking Return Everyone in the Fitness World Is Whispering About—Are You Ready?

Just when you think you’ve finally hopped aboard the ferry to Widow’s Bay, Apple TV throws a curveball—the season finale is already looming. Ever notice how the best shows sometimes play a slow game, simmering under the radar before word of mouth catapults them into must-watch territory? Widow’s Bay nails this with its clever blend of deadpan humor and spine-tingling supernatural twists, making it arguably the sharpest pick of the summer—or dare I say, the whole year. Stick around, because the mystery’s far from over. LEARN MORE

Just as audiences finally board the ferry to Widow’s Bay, the horror-comedy series prepares for its season finale. That’s how it usually goes for new Apple TV shows, but you can’t knock the power of word of mouth. Great TV eventually finds its audience, and Widow’s Bays blend of deadpan gags and supernatural mystery makes it one of the best shows of the summer so far—if not the year.

The series follows town mayor Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys) as he seeks to ignore his island’s many curses and convert the location into the next Martha’s Vineyard. But the island continues to act up as tourists arrive, dredging up killer monsters and deadly storms. So as we head toward the season finale, Loftis sets out with his assistant, Patricia (Kate O’Flynn), and the town’s crazed believer, Wyck (Stephen Root), to solve the mystery and dispel the island’s curse.

Thankfully, the finale won’t mark the end of our stay on Widow’s Bay. In a short teaser posted online by Apple TV, Loftis passes a note to one of his office employees, Dale (Jerry Hiller), and orders him to “issue this.” The note reads: “WIDOW’s BAY RENEWED FOR SEASON 2.” You can watch the season 2 renewal video below.

“My dream is that the audience just wants to lean in more and more,” series creator Katie Dippold told the Television Academy ahead of the finale. “I always wanted this place to feel like a real world that I could take a ferry to and get lost in, and explore all the little terrifying nooks and crannies. I would be dead after a week, but that’s the dream.”

Outside of the show’s main mystery, Widow’s Bay’s monster-of-the-week format lends itself to a series that could run for multiple seasons. In season 1 alone, the characters pay homage to Stephen King and John Carpenter as they remix familiar tropes from IT, The Shining, Halloween, The Fog, and many more into new storylines.

Widow’s Bay stars Matthew Rhys, Kate O’Flynn, and Stephen Root.

“From the moment audiences arrived in Widow’s Bay, they’ve been hooked on every eerie mystery, unexpected laughs, and cursed secret that Katie, [director[ Hiro [Murai], Matthew, and the entire team have created,” said Matt Cherniss, head of programming at Apple TV, in the official press release. “It’s become one of those shows everyone’s talking about, and we’re thrilled to see audiences continue to embrace it. We can’t wait to return for another season.”

“Season two is about how everything is great on the island and there’s nothing to worry about,” Dippold added. Apple TV also signed the creator to a new, multi-year overall deal with the streamer. Audiences will have to see how the mystery plays out following the season 1 finale first, but it’s incredibly exciting that Widow’s Bay has finally found its audience.
